Canada at the World Cup: Toronto & Vancouver Host Football for the First Time

Canada has never hosted the men's FIFA World Cup before. In 2026, that changes — and the country is ready to announce itself as a football nation on the global stage. Two Canadian cities will host World Cup matches: Toronto (BMO Field) and Vancouver (BC Place), and both venues are preparing to deliver an experience that lives up to the greatest sporting event on earth.

BMO Field — Toronto

BMO Field in Toronto is the home of Toronto FC of Major League Soccer, and it will be expanded to a capacity of 45,500 specifically for the 2026 World Cup. Toronto is Canada's largest city and one of the most multicultural metropolises on the planet — the diversity of its population means virtually every nation competing at the World Cup will have passionate local support in the stands. Toronto hosts Ghana vs Panama on June 17 and Panama vs Croatia on June 23, among other fixtures.

BC Place — Vancouver

BC Place in Vancouver, with a capacity of 54,000, is the larger of Canada's two World Cup venues. The stadium sits in the heart of one of the world's most beautiful cities — surrounded by mountains, ocean, and a skyline that will provide a breathtaking backdrop for football's greatest stage. Vancouver hosts Netherlands vs Sweden on June 19 and Belgium vs New Zealand on June 26, among others.

Canada's Own World Cup Story

Canada qualified for the 2026 World Cup in their own right — not just as hosts — and are drawn in Group B alongside Bosnia-Herzegovina, Qatar, and Switzerland. Playing on home soil, in front of home fans, is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Canadian football. After their remarkable qualification campaign, the 2026 World Cup is Canada's chance to show the world what their football programme has become.

A Historic Occasion

The 2026 World Cup is the first time Canada has hosted the men's tournament and also the first time it has co-hosted any men's World Cup. For a country that has historically sat in the shadow of its southern neighbour in football terms, welcoming the world to Toronto and Vancouver is a watershed moment — and one that Canadian football fans will cherish for the rest of their lives.
