Samsung Guides to Record Q3 Profit as AI Memory Demand Rewrites Chip Economics
Samsung Electronics surprised markets on October 8 with preliminary third-quarter guidance of roughly 195 trillion won in revenue and 107.4 trillion won in operating profit. The company said the figures are preliminary and subject to completion of its external audit.
Memory is the new bottleneck
Nvidia GPUs get most of the attention in AI infrastructure, but those accelerators cannot run without enormous quantities of advanced memory. High-bandwidth memory and other memory products have become essential components of large AI systems, and buyers are competing aggressively for capacity.
What it means for consumer devices
Smartphone, PC and tablet makers still need DRAM and storage, so memory makers now hold unusual pricing power and costs are being pushed downstream. Expect that pressure to show up in device pricing and configurations.

The significance goes beyond one company's quarter: AI demand is producing exceptional profits upstream in the semiconductor supply chain while squeezing components elsewhere in electronics.
