Neymar Injury Doubt: Santos Defend Transparency Over Brazil Star's Fitness
Brazil's talisman Neymar has emerged as a serious doubt for the Seleção's opening 2026 FIFA World Cup fixture against Morocco, casting a shadow over their pre-tournament preparations with kick-off just days away.
The Injury
The forward is reported to have sustained a calf injury that is expected to keep him out of Brazil's first group stage match. Goal.com reported that Santos issued an official statement defending their transparency over how the injury has been communicated — pushing back against suggestions they had been evasive about the severity of his condition.
Brazil Without Their No. 10
Brazil's campaign in 2026 has been one of the most anticipated storylines of the tournament. Without Neymar from the outset, coach Dorival Júnior will need to reorganise his attacking setup to compensate for the absence of their most creative and experienced forward.
Will He Play at All?
The question many Brazilian fans are asking is whether Neymar will make it onto the pitch at all during the group stage. Brazil's medical staff are working around the clock to assess the damage, and a final decision is expected closer to game day. For now, the mood in the Brazil camp remains cautious.
