Top Apple Tech News: May 2026 — WWDC, iPhone 18, Siri AI Overhaul & More

1. WWDC 2026: Apple's Biggest AI Event Yet — June 8–12

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off on June 8 at Apple Park in Cupertino, and it is shaping up to be one of the most consequential in the company's history. The keynote will preview iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 — all with AI at the centre. Developer betas will be available immediately after the keynote, with public releases expected in September.

2. Siri Gets a Complete Overhaul — The Biggest Redesign in Years

The centrepiece of WWDC 2026 is a ground-up rebuild of Siri. The new Siri is reported to run on a custom model built on Google's Gemini technology, processed through Apple's own Private Cloud Compute infrastructure. The redesigned assistant features a new visual interface that integrates with the Dynamic Island, a fresh 'Search or Ask' prompt, and on-device processing for context-rich follow-up questions — even offline. Systemwide AI tools in Mail, Notes, and Messages will let users generate, refine, and summarise content without leaving their apps.

3. Apple Quietly Registers genai.apple.com — A New Generative AI Push

Weeks before WWDC, Apple registered a brand new subdomain — genai.apple.com — signalling a dedicated generative AI push beyond its existing Apple Intelligence platform. While the page remains inactive, its addition to Apple's domain servers suggests new developer tools, consumer-facing AI features, or a standalone generative AI platform could be announced at the conference.

4. iPhone 18 Pro: Dark Cherry Colour, Under-Display Face ID & Apple's Own Modem

The iPhone 18 Pro lineup, expected in September 2026, is shaping up to be a major design leap. Rumoured highlights include a striking new Dark Cherry colour alongside Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver; a smaller Dynamic Island thanks to an under-display flood illuminator; fully hidden Face ID; and Apple's own C1 modem replacing Qualcomm for the first time on a Pro model. RAM is also expected to increase to 12GB to better support on-device AI.

5. Apple's First Foldable iPhone Is Almost Here

After years of speculation, Apple's first foldable device — reportedly called the iPhone Fold — is expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro in fall 2026. It is expected to feature a book-style form factor with a 7.8-inch inner display. Supply chain reports note some ongoing hinge engineering challenges, though the device is reportedly still on track for a late 2026 launch.

6. New Accessibility Features Land on iPhone, iPad & Vision Pro

Apple unveiled a broad set of new accessibility features in May 2026. Apple Vision Pro now supports face gestures for taps and system actions, plus new Dwell Control improvements. Vehicle Motion Cues arrive on visionOS to help reduce motion sickness for passengers. iOS and iPadOS gain new Touch Accommodations, and a new MagSafe accessory designed in close collaboration with people with mobility and grip disabilities is now available.

7. OLED MacBook Pro with Touchscreen & M6 Chip on the Horizon

A major MacBook Pro redesign is in the works. Samsung Display has reportedly begun mass production of OLED panels for the device, which is expected to feature a touchscreen, an M6 chip built on 2-nanometer technology, and a hole-punch camera with no notch. A reinforced hinge engineered to minimise vibration during touch-based interactions rounds out the package. The launch window is currently expected to be late 2026 or early 2027.

8. Apple Smart Glasses: Coming to Rival Meta Ray-Bans

Apple is actively developing AI-powered smart glasses to compete with Meta's Ray-Ban line. The glasses are expected to include cameras, speakers, sensors, and on-device AI — but no display. Apple may preview them at WWDC 2026, with a consumer launch targeted for 2027.
